What is an LLC?
A Limited Liability Company (LLC) is a type of legal entity that offers the same limited liability protection as a corporation but is much easier to set up and provides more flexibility in the way it’s run. An LLC protects entrepreneurs and small business owners by separating their personal and business assets. This means that you are not personally responsible for any of your business’s debts, and creditors will not be able to come after your personal property, bank accounts, investments, etc.
Benefits of an LLC
The “LL” in LLC, contrary to popular belief, does not stand for Lady’s Love. It stands for limited liability. This means that you are not personally liable for any debts your business incurs or lawsuits filed against your business.
An LLC is one of those business entities the provides you with the ability to choose if you want to be taxed as a Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, or as a Corporation. For more information please consult with your CPA.
Your business name is yours and yours alone. No other entities in your state are allowed to use your LLC’s business name.
LLCs have fewer formal requirements to form and operate, unlike corporations, which typically need a board or directors, annual meetings, officers, shareholders, and often have other administrative burdens.
Having an LLC provides you with a credit profile that’s completely separate from your personal credit and social security number. Not to mention, the credit scoring rules and limits work in favor of businesses over individuals.
